Bella Solids Indigo |
Today's color is Indigo - it's a fabulous deep blue. I really love this color. It has a richness that most darker blues don't. It's bold and deep, a perfect addition to any quilt!
Indigo is great to use as a base solid instead of a neutral color, and it's also great when paired up with other blues to add depth as in numbers seven and nine above. I love how it makes those brights pop in the others! I don't know about you, but I'm in love with that little zip pouch that Megan made (number eight). It's too much for me!

I think indigo pairs well with a variety of other blues, and the addition of a berry or wine colored red kicks it up a bit. It's fun, sweet, and fairly gender neutral. I'd think this color palate would go really well for a nice winter blanket. It doesn't scream spring, but it does convey a really nice comfort effect.
Today's free motion quilt design is very attainable and is great for newbie quilters. An overall loopy finish is great for a no-nonsense quilt, and it also adds a layer of sweetness to a child's quilt. The loopy pattern is pretty easy since we all have experience writing loopy L's and E's - there's no forgetting what you were doing (which is something that happened when I started stippling). And while it's not that complex it's a great warm up for more complex quilting. A lot of times I'll free motion quilt a couple rows of loops on a scrap before starting on my real design, just to test tension and get back into the groove of quilting.
